Your One-Eyed Hay Ride Awaits

Off NC 87 the sight of this one-eyed tractor hooked up to a hay bale wagon in the farmer's circular driveway reminded me of Halloween fun from my childhood and teenage years. (Click on photos)

Cold Autumn nights (even in Florida), big bonfire parties, carved pumpkins, bobbing for apples, scary ghost tales told where somebody always jumped out of the shadows to frighten the listeners - BOO!

Making an audio tape of my own high-pitched, ear-splitting, screechy, squealing, screaming, tenor voice that was louder than all the girls combined for use in my school's spooky Haunted House. Keeping a girlfriend warm while riding in an open hay wagon. All these good, back-in-the-day memories flashed before my mind's eye.

I do hope ALL of us have had or will have the opportunity to enjoy such great, memorable Fall fun. I also wish all such hayrides would be confined off-road to the farm property. With only one small headlamp and no rear brake lights on the wagon, an innocent, slow-but-fun hay wagon ride down the local single lane highway on a dark holiday night would not be safe or smart for anyone.
